DRISCOLL CELEBRATES THE
10TH ANNUAL YACHTFEST
SAN
DIEGO, CA – October 6, 2009 – Driscoll Boat Works celebrated its tenth year
in the San Diego Yachtfest this past month. The show, nationally known as
the West Coast’s premiere boutique superyacht showcase, features large
yachts ranging in size from 48 to over 150 feet.
This year, Driscoll showcased the 68 foot Decoy, a Jarrett Bay sport fisher
that had previously undergone a major refit of the aft deck and transom in
the Driscoll yard. Known as an “east coast styled” boat, Decoy had a steady
crowd of interested Yachtfest attendees due to its design, which is rarely
seen on the west coast. Driscoll employees Neil Wilson, Cyndie Segel and
Jaime Kensinger, as well as representatives from Stan Miller Yacht Sales
were on hand throughout the four day event to answer questions about Decoy
and its refit.
Despite the rough economic times, ticket sales at this year’s Yachtfest
surpassed expected numbers, with show attendance being the second highest
since its inception in 1999. As one of the founding members, Driscoll Boat
Works has been an active participant in the show’s day and nighttime
activities, which, this year, included an “All Decked Out” Fashion Show, as
well as numerous crew and exhibitor parties.
The
ever favorite after-parties created a reunion for the past and present
employees of the Driscoll office staff. Three former employees, who had been
tempted away by the lure of the superyacht industry, were active in this
year’s boat show activities. In fact, stewardess of this year’s “Best in
Show”, motor yacht Shogun, Val Maughmer, began her involvement in the
yachting community while working as concierge for Driscoll Boat Works.
Yachtfest is one of several contributing factors that, according to a recent
article from CNN, have made San Diego a “new superyacht capital” of the
world. In addition to this yearly event, many local businesses have expanded
their services to meet the needs of superyacht owners and crew. Driscoll
Boat Works is also one of the founding members of the San Diego Superyacht
Association, a coalition of local companies to promote “America’s Finest
City” as a super and megayacht attraction. As visibility of San Diego grows,
Driscoll Boat Works expects to see an even greater influx of these
impressive vessels.
Driscoll Boat Works is a third generation family owned and run company in
San Diego. They are a full service yacht repair facility on beautiful
Shelter Island. Driscoll has deep water facilities for vessels up to 65
meters in length and haul out capacity for vessels up to 150 tons. For more
