Driscoll Boat Works Is A Super Yacht Mecca

SAN DIEGO, CA – October 16, 2008 – This fall Driscoll Boats Works has become the temporary home of a wide collection of beautiful super and mega yachts. In addition to its usual busy workload, Driscoll is currently hosting eleven super yachts and is shortly expecting two more.

These luxury yachts include the M/Y Paraffin, S/Y Symmetry, S/Y Locura, M/Y Katrion, M/Y Sol Pursuit, M/Y Sovereign, S/Y Altair, M/Y Triton, M/Y Anicca M/Y Splash, M/Y Slo Jo and soon to be M/Y Attessa, and M/Y Bésame. Servicing of these yachts ranges from small jobs to major refitting.

The yard was nearly shut down as the Driscoll team, along with Marco Crane and Rig Pro craned out the mast of the 96’ S/Y Symmetry. When the 150 foot, nearly 12,000 pound, mast was finally laid down, it took up the entire length of the yard. Currently, the mast is resting on one of Driscoll’s 200 foot piers, which has scaffolding and shrink wrap to protect the mast during its repainting.

Another innovative service preformed by Driscoll Boat Works is the light mechanical and painting summer refit of the M/Y Paraffin. In an effort to be more environmentally conscious Driscoll provided a scaffold and shrink wrap enclosure in order to roll and brush the entire top super structure of the yacht. The captain and crew were very pleased with the beautiful and glossy finish and it is a key success in Driscoll’s effort to be eco-friendly.

With San Diego’s beautiful weather year-round, Driscoll Boat Works is able to perform services not available in other major port cities that are limited by the seasons. Its Shelter Island location is in walking distance to all amenities, which is perfect for crews docked for long periods of time.
