Takes Alessa Leigh For A Stroll Down Shelter Island Drive
SAN
DIEGO, CA – May 28, 2009 – After a four year stay for a refit in Shelter
Island, San Diego’s marine-based neighborhood, Driscoll Boat Works launched
the 99 foot motor yacht Alessa Leigh. Driscoll’s way’s crew maneuvered the
vessel a quarter mile down Shelter Island Drive using its 150 ton Marine
Travelift. It was an awe-inspiring site to see along the road many people
refer to as the “Rodeo Drive” of the yachting community.
The process, which took two days to complete, began with staging Alessa
Leigh in the driveway of Shelter Island Boat Yard at the end of the work
week. The next morning, Driscoll’s Travelift crew guided the yacht one
quarter of a mile down the road to the Driscoll Boat Works facilities. Once
in the yard, the vessel was successfully launched into the water via Marine
Travelift. In order to avoid disrupting the community of Shelter Island, the
crew began the traveling leg of the transport before the sun rose on
Saturday morning.
Alessa Leigh’s owner was very pleased with the results of transporting the
over 185,000 pound yacht, which at times, was within inches of trees,
buildings, and other obstacles. The successful move and launch is a direct
result of strategic planning, partnership and the skilled professionals of
Driscoll Boat Works.
